QEM/TCUP Stem Leadership Development Institute (LDI) August 5-8, 2008. Minneapolis, MN
Joint Annual Meeting June 17-19, 2008 (Washington, DC)
2008 TCUP Leaders' Forum The second annual TCUP Leaders' Forum was a venue specifically designed for all Principal Investigators (PI) and Project Directors (PD) of TCUP projects to network and share program successes. The 1 1/2 day forum provided TCUP PIs and PDs an opportunity to participate in a meaningful dialogue with each other, NSF staff, and national leaders in STEM education. In an effort to foster communication, collaboration, and exchange of ideas and cooperative strategies between the various projects, this year's forum focused on Native Cultures and Languages and their relation with STEM education of American Indian, Native Alaskan and Native Hawaiian students at participating TCUP institutions.
2007 TCUP Leaders' Forum – The 2007 TCUP Leaders’ Forum was the first TCUP meeting specifically designed for all Principal Investigators (PI) and Project Directors (PD) of TCUP projects. The 1 ½ day forum provided TCUP PIs and PDs an opportunity to participate in a meaningful dialogue with each other, NSF staff, and national leaders in Indian education. In an effort to foster communication and exchange of ideas, various projects shared effective strategies and best practices with the group. The forum allowed various projects to enhance communication, collaboration, and cooperative strategies between each other to improve the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education of American Indian and Alaska Native students at the tribal colleges and universities.
QEM/TCUP STEM Leadership Development Institute Session III - August 6-10, 2007 – The QEM/TCUP STEM Leadership Development Institute is designed to support and encourage broader participation by Native American and Alaska Native faculty and staff in efforts to enhance STEM education at their home institutions. The Institute consists of three sessions: Session I - a five-day Institute on August 21-25, 2006; Session II - a two-day follow-up workshop on February 2-3, 2007; and Session III - a five-day Institute on August 6-10, 2007. Plans for the Institute are being developed with the expectation that 20 of the 25 Tribal Colleges and Universities and Alaska Native-serving institutions with TCUP multi-year awards will be represented in the Leadership Institute by two-person teams. QEM will cover travel, lodging, and meals for all Institute participants during each part of the Series; provide a fellowship; and issue a laptop computer to participants for use during the Series. A $2,400 fellowship, payable in three installments ($1,000; $400; and $1,000), upon successful completion of each part of the Series, is available. Participants (Fellows) who successfully complete the three-part Series will keep the laptop computers issued to them. In collaboration with the home institutions, our goal is to provide an on-going support system for the Fellows that will include mentoring, videoconferencing, a Listserv, and a Web-based information exchange site. Graduates of the Leadership Development Institute will be prepared and expected to assume a leadership role in the design, promotion, and management of new STEM Projects for their campuses. They also will be able to provide enhanced support to the principal investigators and project directors of the current TCUP projects at their institutions.
